Neither fever nor rain can stop Attila Tassi
Budapest, May 7, 2018. The first race weekend of TCR Europe’s 2018 season is over, and Attila Tassi again showed a tremendous feat. The young talent became ill by the weekend, and was not able to place well in the timings, but this wasn’t the last of his difficulties; he had a flat tire on the first lap, but by the second race he was able to pull himself together, and gaining 11 places, finished in 6th.
The contestants of the touring car European championship knew they would be facing an overcast weekend; the first race of the season took place in France, where the sky was rainy all weekend. This time we could cheer for Attila Tassi on the Paul Ricard racetrack, even though he has hardly had time to rest after the WTCR Hungaroring race, and was already looking for new challenges. Just to make things even more difficult for him, by the start of the race he got sick, so that he went to the track to train on Friday with a fever.
By Saturday’s qualifying race, his condition had improved, and he posted a good time, however his best lap was disqualified due to leaving the track, meaning he had to start from 17th place for the first lap of the afternoon. After a fantastic start in the first lap he was fighting for 10th place, when he collided with a competitor, and his left front wheel was damaged. As a result of this he got a flat tire in the next lap, and could not complete the race.
On Sunday’s race, he again started in 17th place, and by the 2nd lap was in 10th place, when rain interfered and the race was stopped with a red flag. Once the race resumed, Tassi proved much faster than before – and through his improved pace made it to 6th place, while his was the best time in the last lap.
Tassi’s teammate, Josh Files, did well in the qualifying race – starting from 5th place, he ended the first race in 4th. With the reversed start placements, he started from 6th place in the second race, where he immediately got into 2nd place, however the rain and the red flag caused him to lose his place, and he finished the race in 12th place.
With this performance Attila is currently in 8th in the individual race, Josh is in 5th, and their team, HELL ENERGY Racing with KCMG, is currently in 5th place.
