Budapest, September 15, 2019. The WTCR Super Grid returns from summer vacation to face heated competition. The first race after the break took place on the Ningbo racetrack where we could see the extremely tight competition unfolding on the track. Attila Tassi, a member of the HELL-KCMG team, however, demonstrated exceptional endurance allowing him to finish out the weekend having gained points.
The touring car world championship racers were welcomed by soaring temperatures in Ningbo this past weekend which did not do the race-hungry drivers any favors. Attila Tassi, competing in HELL ENERGY colors had a tough time at the beginning of the weekend finishing 23rd at Saturday’s race. The young talent did seem to find himself by Sunday, though: departing from the 17th position, he made it to the 6th in the second lap of the day, for the 3rd, he set off from the 16th position and finished 13th, for which he and his car, christened Elda had quite a battle to fight
“This was a very exciting weekend for me, especially because this was the first one this year where I could collect the most points, something which I was definitely not expecting. Several guys were already competing very aggressively on Saturday and it felt like there was no sense in taking the risk as I was all the way at the end of the field. But on Sunday, I threw down the gauntlet too, because, when it comes down to it, I like to fight for the better position as well. In the second lap, right after setting off I was able to position myself well and a few forfeits also helped me along. So, starting from 17th place, I made it among the top 10. Unfortunately, I was dealing with a lot of car problems and there was some trouble with the cooling on both days, I lost a lot of power during the straights. Even though I was able to overtake well several times in the curves, my opponents gained on me on the straight. Luckily I was able to keep my position and come in 6th in the third lap thanks to the yellow flag. I had a good send-off in the third race, I positioned well, but in the second curve, several other drivers had darted in front of me, setting me back 5 positions, then came the Safety Car and I also had a slight brush with the Azcona. After that, my steering wheel got stuck to the left so I ended up having to do the remaining 14 laps hardly being able to steer left and the car was wrecked from all sides too. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a struggle with the car, but I’m so glad we stuck it out got those points,”Tassi said in summary of the weekend.
